Gunnery Sergeant Roberta "Bobbie" Draper, a towering Martian Marine and daughter of a revered Sergeant Major, sees her squad slaughtered on Ganymede by a protomolecule creature, an event that leaves her suit battered and her psyche scarred. Silenced by her own chain of command when she tries to testify about the monster, she breaks ranks after an outburst at the Earth–Mars talks and is recruited by UN politician Chrisjen Avasarala, trading blind loyalty for a hunt for the truth. Through investigation, political intrigue aboard Jules-Pierre Mao's yacht, and her seizure of the Guanshiyin, she becomes a trusted ally of the Rocinante crew, leading the Io rescue that brings the stolen children home and fighting Admiral Nguyen's rogue fleet. By the end of Caliban's War she has moved from soldier to whistleblower and survivor, bound by genuine friendship to Avasarala and the Rocinante.

Description

Dark skin, strong jaw, and intense eyes under the helmet of her Martian powered armor in red surface camouflage. Left knee actuator shows hydraulic leak, suit gel rigid from impact, her posture one of unbowed resilience. A human woman over two meters tall, large and powerfully built, with short dark hair usually pulled into a tight bun. Her face has a pronounced forehead when frowning; her eyes are described as dry-looking when exhausted. She wears Martian Marine service or utility uniforms, commonly red-and-khaki or red-and-gray. The armor is scratched and dinged but intact.
