Alex Kamal is a genial, round-faced Martian Navy veteran whose easy humor belies his exceptional skill at the helm. Thrust into the spotlight when the Canterbury is destroyed, he flies the shuttle Knight and then the stolen Martian corvette Rocinante, becoming the indispensable pilot of Holden's makeshift crew. By Caliban's War, he has settled into the role of the ship's steady heart, forgiving Holden's lapses, welcoming the desperate botanist Prax, and threading the Rocinante through a fleet battle while carrying quiet, unspoken affections for Sam Snelling and Bobbie Draper.

Description

A middle-aged Martian man with thinning black hair atop his round cheerful face and deep brown skin untouched by years of shipboard life. His frame is thicker than any Belter's yet remains comparatively slender, though a spreading waistline and prominent belly press visibly against his clothing. He wears a standard flight suit or atmosphere suit with the relaxed posture of a veteran pilot who has left strict military fitness behind, his entire bearing conveying good humor and experienced competence. A human man with a dark complexion and broad dark face. His jet-black hair is thin and thinning, with his dark scalp showing through; by middle age he is balding and has love handles. Clothing varies by scene and is not a defining part of this appearance.
