Ysalte is a goddess of earth and water worshipped by the Semeru Dwarves, known by many names including the Vinegar Bitch, the Downward Spiral, and The Inevitable, and despised by gods and demons alike as a jealous, scheming trickster tied to hopelessness and insanity. In The Eye of the Bedlam Bride she manifests in the dungeon through the corpse of her sponsored bard, Sister Ines Quiteria, seeking revenge for her death, and is revealed to be the former lover of the demon Amayon, mother of his child, and his current captor. Her rampage brings her into conflict with Louis and her old rival Samantha before Paz Lo slays her, piercing her eye and blasting her head from her neck. By This Inevitable Ruin she lingers mainly as a name, remembered simply as a dwarf goddess.

Description

Ysalte is a regular-sized female dwarf with a strikingly young face. She wears a helmet topped with a candle whose flame sparks like a dynamite fuse, and carries a pickaxe. Her face can flicker like a faulty television screen, with the static sometimes leaving her mouth shaped into a scream. Her appearance balances the familiar silhouette of a miner with an uncanny, unstable presence. A dwarf goddess. No other physical features are described.
