Rufus was the family’s black Labrador, already an adult dog when Holden was born. Big, slobbery, and full of affection, he spent his final years as an elderly companion, panting beside a heater vent. He lived to fifteen, leaving behind the tender imprint of a dog woven into the family’s earliest memories.

Description

Rufus is a large, elderly black Labrador with a broad, substantial build and a comfortably dog-soft silhouette. His muzzle is slobbery, and his panting gives him an unmistakably warm, lived-in presence. No distinctive markings, eye color, or other features are specified; his most recognizable traits are his black coat, great size, and affectionate look.
