A seasoned captain with a hard-edged military manner, Jakande commands attention through both her bearing and her cool, deliberate composure. Her close-cropped silver hair gives her the aspect of an ancient Roman emperor, while her winterlike smile hints at a formidable sense of humor and resolve. The book leaves her broader history largely unspoken, but she makes a memorable impression as a commanding presence aboard ship.
