Hesina is Kaladin's mother and the wife of the surgeon Lirin, a warm, practical woman whose steady hands and gentle wisdom anchor her family. Description
Hesina is tall, with a narrow face, a bold chin, and full lips. Her dark hair is pulled into a tail and wrapped in a kerchief, often tucked beneath a knit hat; at other times a yellow kerchief covers the crown of her head. She wears modest, practical clothing, including a long brown coat or a brown work dress, with a blue skirt hem sometimes visible beneath the coat. Her eyes have a lively twinkle, and her capable, attentive manner lends her a quietly reassuring presence. Hesina is an Alethi woman whose hair is shoulder-length when loose and is also seen gathered into a bun, with stray hairs escaping. A patterned kerchief covers her hair in one appearance; later, it is described as white and grey, prematurely so. She wears practical clothing, and white gloves tucked into her belt are a distinctive detail. Her bearing is capable and composed, softened by a maternal warmth that shows in her attentive care of others.
