Marsh begins as Kelsier's stern, pessimistic older brother, a veteran skaa rebel who infiltrates the Steel Ministry for the crew, only to be captured and remade into a Steel Inquisitor. Though he turns on the Inquisitors and helps bring down the Lord Ruler, the Hemalurgic spikes leave him open to Ruin, who seizes control of him and makes him a monstrous agent of destruction. Freed by Harmony after Ruin's defeat, he endures for centuries as a solitary, scarred immortal known as Ironeyes and 'Death', quietly guarding Scadrial. In the Wax and Wayne era he becomes a grim ally to Marasi and Wax, sharing Hemalurgic knowledge and warning of Harmony's growing indecision even as his dwindling atium leaves age washing over him in painful waves.
Description
No physical appearance is described for Ironeyes. The name is presented as a nickname for Marsh, not as a detailed visual portrait, so hair, eyes, build, clothing, and other features are unspecified. A lanky, blond-haired man about as tall as Kelsier, with a stern, commanding expression and hard, discerning eyes. He is less handsome than Kelsier. His modest skaa clothing includes a simple shirt, trousers, and a loose jacket; his clothes may be ash-stained. A tall bald man with fair skin and a sturdy frame stands in a black robe accented by metal bracers on his forearms. His eye sockets are entirely filled with thick iron spikes driven point-first through them, the flat heads gleaming like round steel disks on his face while the pointed ends protrude from the rear of his skull with no blood seeping from the wounds. This creates an unnatural, unnerving, and dangerous profile that is hard to read yet often seems sorrowful or intimidating as he moves with deliberate purpose. An unnaturally tall bald man with a head wrinkled by intricate tattoos mostly black with one stark red stands with a lean muscular build showing a stark rib cage and taut muscles. Large steel spikes pierce his eyes with one pounded deeper to crush the socket and protrude from the back of his skull while over twenty spikes total bristle from his chest and between his ribs. His face often twists into an inhuman sneer as he wears dark gray robes or stands bare-chested with rain or ash upon his fair skin, the complete monstrous form of a hemalurgic Inquisitor evoking both power and horror. Marsh is an uncommonly tall, lean figure with weighty spikes through both eyes, the points jutting from the back of his skull. One eye socket is crushed, and scars intermingle with faded tattoos outlining the sockets. His skin has a ghostly, ill appearance, and his hands are lean and skeletal. He wears voluminous black robes, and his face shows aging that waxes and wanes with each breath. Death is not visually described. The text gives no body, face, clothing, coloring, or other physical features, so no concrete appearance can be established. Not described in these chapters Marsh is a gaunt, formidable older man whose face and body are marked by the brutal metalwork of an Inquisitor: spikes pierce his eyes and emerge from his skin. His expression is severe and deeply worn, giving his features a haunted, almost inhuman stillness. He carries himself with the rigid economy of someone accustomed to pain and long solitude. His clothing is dark and practical, with no ornament to soften his stark silhouette. Marsh is exceptionally tall and spare, his frame almost skeletal beneath voluminous black robes. His skin is ghostly pale, his hands lean and bony, and his face is marked by a crushed eye socket framed with scars and faded tattoos. Heavy metal spikes pass through his eyes and jut from the back of his skull, their metallic eyes catching the light with an unnerving gleam. He carries himself with a solemn, deathlike stillness; when age overtakes him, wrinkles and sagging jowls briefly deepen his already haunted appearance.
