Juliette "Julie" Mao is the estranged daughter of corporate magnate Jules-Pierre Mao, a young woman whose disappearance sets Detective Joseph Miller on an obsessive hunt that uncovers the protomolecule conspiracy. Infected aboard the Anubis, she becomes the first host through which the alien protomolecule takes hold, and her body and mind serve as its template on Eros. Found dead and overgrown with black filaments in a hotel shower, she nonetheless persists within the transformed station, and her guiding presence ultimately steers Eros away from Earth. Long after her death, her legacy haunts the series, raising questions about whether some part of her survives within the protomolecule.

Description

An eighteen-year-old woman with a thin frame and long, disheveled dark hair. She wears a urine-soaked jumpsuit and is stiff from confinement, but moves into a defensive stance. The text provides no reliable visual description of Julie Mao’s ordinary appearance: her height, build, complexion, hair, eyes, and clothing are unspecified. Later references describe her body in a grotesque, altered state, but do not establish what she looked like before. Keep her visual design unassigned rather than filling these gaps with invented details.
