The chasms of the Shattered Plains are the deep, storm-carved rifts that divide the plateaus where the Alethi wage their war for gemhearts. In The Way of Kings they are a place of punishment and peril, where Bridge Four is sent to scavenge the dead amid moss-slick walls and floodwater, and where Kaladin secretly forges his crew into soldiers and first draws in Stormlight. By Rhythm of War, the chasms have grown deep, slimy, and overgrown with vines, a lingering and wild remnant of the old battlefield as the war's focus shifts to Urithiru and beyond.
