Syl, formally Sylphrena, first appears as a playful, translucent spren who drifts near the enslaved Kaladin, seemingly a mere windspren. Her bond with him gradually restores her memory and reason and grants him Stormlight, and she is revealed to be an ancient honorspren who chose humans over the distrust of her kind. By Rhythm of War she has become Kaladin's steadfast emotional anchor, quietly arranging support for him during his depression. She also confronts her own past, including grief for her fallen former knight Relador, her strained bond with the Stormfather, and her place among the rigid honorspren, emerging as an agent whose convictions carry their own weight.

Description

A tiny, translucent, vaporous female figure with a feminine, angular face and curious eyes. She appears as a young woman with long, flowing hair and a dress or knee-length skirt that flutters and fades into mist; she can enlarge to regular-person size, and her hair and dress stream in the wind. Syl most often appears as a small, glowing young woman, her long blue-white hair trailing away into mist. Her cool, distinct blue-white light gives her a delicate radiance, while her face and gestures are lively and expressive. She wears a sleek, stylish ankle-length dress that seems to blur at the edges, with no safehand sleeve. Though usually tiny beside humans, she can appear at full size or transform into clean, silvery weapons and a shield; her presence is graceful, bright, and quietly assured. Sylphrena most often appears as a small young woman, her blue-white glow giving her a luminous, delicate outline. She wears a flowing, girlish dress that fades into mist around her knees, though at times her bearing and clothing seem more stately. Her gestures can be prim and composed—hands resting on her knees as she sits—or animated as she flies beside someone. She has no fixed physical form, and may appear as a ribbon of light or take other shapes; her presence is airy, bright, and unmistakably alert.
