Jam is one of Kaladin's boyhood companions from Hearthstone, a youth two years his senior who first appears practicing with a quarterstaff under his father's instruction, an early glimpse of the martial world that would later consume Kaladin. He resurfaces only in memory in Rhythm of War, recalled as a fool who snatched up a spear when the Fused invasion reached Hearthstone. His small arc traces a quiet echo of Kaladin's own: an ordinary townsman who picks up a weapon and tries, however unwisely, to face danger.
Description
Jam is in his early teens and is two years older than Kaladin. He trains with a quarterstaff, but the text does not describe his build, height, skin tone, hair, eyes, facial features, or clothing. No distinguishing marks or accessories are noted. The text gives no concrete physical description of Jam, so his appearance should remain unspecified rather than fixed by guesswork. He is identified as male and is associated with a spear during the invasion. No details of his face, coloring, hair, build, or clothing are established.

Kaladinboyhood companion
A boyhood companion of Kaladin's in Hearthstone. Older by two years and already learning the quarterstaff, Jam offered young Kaladin an early brush with weapons training. By Rhythm of War he exists only in recollection, his reckless grab for a spear during the invasion a faint mirror of Kaladin's own path from townsboy to soldier.
