Highprince Vamah is one of the ten Alethi highprinces of the Shattered Plains warcamps, introduced in The Way of Kings as a lord whose lavish, conspicuous fashion makes him a vivid emblem of aristocratic display. He plays little personal role in the war's politics, surfacing chiefly as a backdrop figure among the highprinces watching the duels. By Rhythm of War his fate has turned grim: he is reported to have fled the warcamps and been murdered, a quiet end that underscores how the old Alethi order has crumbled.

Description

Vamah’s most clearly described feature is his elaborate clothing: a long grey coat slashed to show bright red and orange silk underneath. Ruffles peek from the cuffs and collar, turning an otherwise sombre outer layer into a flamboyant display. The text does not specify his face, hair, eyes, complexion, build, or age, so those features remain unknown. The text provides no visual details for Vamah. His age, build, coloring, facial features, hair, clothing, and manner are unspecified.

Connections

  • Dalinar Kholinfellow highprince

Vamah and Dalinar are fellow Alethi highprinces who watch the duels together in The Way of Kings. When Sadeas mocks Vamah's showy clothing, Dalinar pushes back against judging people by appearance, implicitly sparing Vamah. No deeper bond is shown, and Vamah's later flight and murder end any prospect of alliance.

  • Torol SadeasRival

Sadeas, a fellow highprince, openly criticizes Vamah's conspicuous fashion during the duels, reflecting the petty status jockeying among the Alethi lords.
