Valdir the Unshorn emerges in the later books of the Red Rising Saga as a towering Obsidian warlord whose physical presence and battlefield prowess mark him as one of the most formidable Sky Bastards. Initially introduced in Dark Age as the consort of Queen Sefi Volarus, he commands loyalty through both his terrifying visage and unyielding strength, his moon-pale skin adorned with war trophies and scars that speak to a life of brutal conflict. By Light Bringer, Valdir has evolved from a politically strained consort into a more independent leader, his shaved head and flayed chest wounds symbolizing a transformation from personal loyalty to broader allegiance with those fighting for change, while his terrifying smile and quiet menace continue to inspire both fear and devotion among his people.
Description
A very large, muscular human man with a delicate, avian-featured face, twice-broken nose, gaunt freckled cheeks, full notched lips, batwing ears, and black irises flecked with silver. His long hair falls to his tailbone in a trophy-sewn valor tail. His arms and body are tattooed, with old wounds notching and striating the skin. He wears battered white pulseArmor, a skull helmet plumed with green feathers, and gold torcs; his armor bears the skulls of Peerless warlords, and he carries a man-sized greataxe. Valdir stands exceptionally tall with a build of corded ropelike muscle that strains beneath his skin. His shaved head highlights gaunt freckled cheeks and deep surly eyes that hold a constant intensity. Tattoos stain much of his body, and three flayed wounds mark his chest. He carries a terrifying smile that contrasts with his troublingly handsome features.
