Proctor Mercury, a Peerless Scarred Gold known as Loki, begins as a jovial yet ruthless Institute Proctor whose arm is broken by Darrow during the brutal contest of Red Rising. By Morning Star, the once-theatrical antagonist has become a wolf-masked enforcer of the Society, only to meet a swift, ignominious death on the battlefield when impaled by a razor. His arc traces the fall of Gold privilege—from petty cruelty and institutional power to battlefield defeat—mirroring the broader collapse of the Society's elite.

Description

Small and squat like a cherub, Mercury has a baby face with rosy cheeks and coiled golden hair drooping over his eyes. His pudgy build is clad in a loose bathrobe, one forearm visibly bandaged. He carries an innocent yet sly expression, his features soft and boyish. Mercury is a male Proctor with a distinctly baby-faced look that contrasts with his authority. He laughs jovially and favors showy gestures, giving him an exuberant, performative presence. He is also described with a broken arm; the text does not specify his height, build, hair, eyes, or usual clothing. Pudgy and middle-aged with a cherub-like round face marked by Peerless scars on his cheeks, he wears ornate Gold armor featuring a wolf metal mask visage as Loki, complete with pulseShield and a razor at his hip, cloak flowing behind. Even on his knees with a razor embedded in his chest through the pulseArmor, his presence remains imposingly armored and dramatic.
