The Skip Drive Satellite Swarm debuts in the seventh book of the Old Man's War series, The Shattering Peace, as a revolutionary new technology that fundamentally alters interstellar warfare and diplomacy. This swarm of autonomous satellites represents the Colonial Union's latest leap in skip-drive technology, enabling rapid, coordinated jumps across vast distances without traditional ship-based limitations. The swarm's emergence marks a pivotal shift in the balance of power between the Colonial Union, the Earth, and alien races, introducing both unprecedented tactical advantages and new ethical dilemmas about autonomous warfare.
