The Obin Embassy to the Colonial Union begins as a stark, utilitarian outpost in The Shattering Peace, reflecting the Obin’s historically detached and pragmatic relationship with humanity. Over the course of the series, the embassy evolves from a mere diplomatic waypoint into a critical nexus for Obin–human cooperation, especially as the Obin seek greater cultural understanding and strategic alliance against mutual threats. Its bare, functional aesthetic gradually gives way to subtle signs of Obin adaptation and engagement, mirroring their broader societal shift from observers to active participants in interstellar affairs.
