The Colonial Union Diplomatic Academy is first introduced in the seventh book of the Old Man's War series, The Shattering Peace, as a training facility that combines physical combat training with diplomatic preparation. The academy's multipurpose room, equipped with wrestling mats and nanobotic paint splotches, serves as a microcosm of the Colonial Union's evolving approach to interstellar relations—where traditional diplomatic training merges with the practical realities of conflict. This facility represents the Colonial Union's recognition that diplomacy in their universe requires both intellectual sophistication and physical readiness, marking a significant evolution in how the Colonial Union prepares its representatives for engagement with alien species.
