Wayne is a Twinborn constable, master of disguise and accents, and Waxillium Ladrian's irrepressible partner, whose clowning conceals deep guilt over a youthful robbery in which he killed a man. In Shadows of Self he pays monthly penance to the victim's daughter Allriandre, chases Ranette, and is captured by the kandra Paalm, who cannot bring herself to kill him. By The Lost Metal, a thirty-nine-year-old Wayne is heartbroken after MeLaan ends their six-year romance, and he slowly learns from Wax, Jaxy, Ranette, and Hoid that he has become a good man. He is empowered by Harmony and sacrifices his life to stop the bomb, saving Elendel and the people he loves.

Description

Wayne is a man nearing forty who maintains a spry youthful physique and energetic demeanor. He favors an array of hats such as bowlers and wool caps paired with jackets, frequently changing his look through wigs, makeup, and costumes for his schemes. His appearance often shows signs of recent adventures with torn or dirty clothes and a mischievous glint in his wide eyes. A seventeen-year-old young man with a round face and barely a hint of stubble, wearing an oversized bowler hat. A thirty-nine-year-old human man with a youthful, spry presence and an animated, expressive grin. He wears practical, slightly rumpled clothes suited to an adventuring constable, often topped with a coachman’s hat, and carries dueling canes in loops on his belt. His appearance is adaptable and informal, with a quick, alert manner; his hair, eyes, complexion, and precise build are not established in the text.
