Tobal Copper was a bald, 53-year-old chemist employed at the Sentinel of Truth whose conscience set the events of The Lost Metal in motion. Alarmed by evidence of the Set's weapons program and an impending catastrophe for Elendel, he secretly smuggled stolen ledgers and scraps of information to his confidante Maraga over years while trying to shield her from the danger. The Set discovered and killed him before he could complete his warning, but the trail he left became a crucial thread for Waxillium Ladrian and Marasi Colms. He is remembered as a good, eccentric, and miserable man who tried to do the right thing alone.
