Father Bin, a Pathian priest, is first mentioned as a possible officiant for Wax’s wedding. Later, he is found dead, nailed to a wall with spikes through his eyes, his white ceremonial robes drenched with blood; by another account, he has been killed with a bloody mallet and his bones picked clean. His brutal death becomes one of the book’s stark signs of the violence surrounding the investigation.
Description
The book provides no living physical description of Father Bin. In the scene where he is seen, he is a corpse in white ceremonial robes, with a spike through each eye and blood painting his cheeks and soaking the fabric into a crimson stain. The image is severe and macabre, with the pale vestments stark against the blood.
