Tavore Paran first appears in Gardens of the Moon as a quiet, severe presence within the noble Paran household, a young woman marked by discipline and reserve. By Deadhouse Gates she has risen to become Adjunct to Empress Laseen, the Empire's chosen hand. She proves her loyalty to the throne by consigning her own younger sister Felisin to the otataral mines in the noble purge. Cold, precise and unreadable, she leads the Red Swords and her aide T'amber into Seven Cities, a figure whose hidden inner life makes her one of the series' most enigmatic commanders.

Description

Tavore is a tall woman, nearly as tall as her brother Ganoes, with a stiff, straight back that makes her seem even more imposing. Her reddish hair is trimmed shorter than the prevailing style, framing a plain face defined by stark, bloodless lines. Her eyes are pale, and her expression is controlled rather than inviting. She wears no conspicuous adornment; her restrained appearance and rigid bearing give her a severe, unmistakable presence. Her face is thin and drawn until nothing remains but lines, her eyes reduced to slits, her mouth bracketed by deep creases and almost lipless. She sits straight-backed in a high saddle, clad in military attire, her posture unyielding and exact.
