Darius I, known as Darius the Great, ruled the Persian Empire during a period of remarkable expansion and cultural achievement. His reign saw the construction of monumental bridges connecting continents and the flourishing of religious traditions including the era of Zoroaster. The Goths would later claim their ancestors had checked his victorious armies, cementing his legacy as both conqueror and statesman whose diplomatic reach extended to distant Carthage.
