Class Five Dormitory begins as the Academy's most spartan lodging block, a single floor of cramped, unheated rooms where the lowest-ranked students endure nightly cold and the constant threat of expulsion. Over the course of the series it transforms from a mere backdrop of hardship into a covert nerve-center of rebellion, its narrow corridors and hidden alcoves hosting whispered alliances, stolen documents, and the first sparks of organized resistance against the Hierarchy. By the later books the dormitory has become both sanctuary and battlefield—its walls scarred by sabotage, its communal washroom doubling as an impromptu infirmary, and its very existence a symbol of the Hierarchy's crumbling grip on its most disenfranchised citizens.
