Cartiz begins as the glittering capital of Aquiria in The Will of the Many, a city of marble spires and political intrigue where the Hierarchy’s elite convene. Over the course of the series, it transforms from a symbol of imperial order into a battleground of rebellion, its grand plazas and Senate halls echoing with the clash of revolution and the fall of old regimes. By the later books, Cartiz’s skyline is scarred by siege engines and its streets are lit by the fires of uprising, yet it remains the beating heart of Aquiria’s destiny—its fate intertwined with the Hierarchy’s survival or collapse.
