The sprawling lawns of Hogwarts Grounds slope from the castle down to the Black Lake, edged by the Forbidden Forest and home to the Quidditch pitch, Hagrid's hut, and the greenhouses. In Harry's first year they are a place of flying lessons, Quidditch triumphs and secret midnight errands. By his third year they turn darker as Dementors patrol the boundaries, the Whomping Willow hides a passage to the Shrieking Shack, and a time-turned rescue unfolds by the lake. In the fourth year the grounds are transformed to host the Triwizard Tournament, with dragon enclosures, the lake task and a hedge maze on the Quidditch pitch, and they become the scene of Cedric Diggory's body returning with Harry after Voldemort's rebirth.
