Norbert is the Norwegian Ridgeback dragon Hagrid illegally hatched from a mysterious black egg during Harry's first year at Hogwarts. His rapid growth and fiery temperament forced Harry, Ron, and Hermione into a risky scheme to smuggle him to Charlie Weasley in Romania, an adventure that tested the trio's boldness and drew Filch's suspicions. Though he leaves the story early, Norbert lingers in Hagrid's heart, and years later the gamekeeper recalls the vicious baby dragon with misty-eyed affection, a lasting emblem of Hagrid's love for dangerous creatures.
Description
Norbert is a skinny newborn Norwegian Ridgeback dragon with jet-black wrinkled skin resembling a crumpled umbrella. Huge spiny wings fold awkwardly along his long snout, wide nostrils, and budding horn stubs. Bulging orange eyes gleam above pointed fangs, his scaly body sneezing sparks with fiery breath. Norbert is identified as a Norwegian Ridgeback dragon and described as vicious. The text does not provide details of his coloring, size, scales, eyes, or other particular features, so these remain unspecified.
