Ernie Macmillan is a pompous but fundamentally decent Hufflepuff whose fierce house loyalty repeatedly colors his view of Harry Potter. In his second year he swings from courtesy to open accusation, branding Harry the Heir of Slytherin after Justin Finch-Fletchley's petrification, before reconciling once the true culprit is revealed. The pattern repeats during the Triwizard Tournament, when his proud support for Cedric Diggory turns him cold and mocking toward Harry. His loyalty is genuine, even when it clouds his judgment.

Description

Ernie is a stout, pudgy 12-year-old boy with a formal demeanor, his face often stark white with concern and soft features framed by neat hair. He has plump hands that he extends politely, dressed in Hufflepuff robes of yellow and black over school uniform. His build is rounded and solid, moving with deliberate care around plants or in classrooms. His presence feels proper and dutiful, eyes earnest behind a veneer of propriety. Ernie is a teenage Hufflepuff student, a fourth-year whose exact height, build, coloring, hair, and eye color are not specified. He is seen in Hogwarts school clothing and, during the Tournament, wears a badge proclaiming support for Cedric Diggory. His eyes are described as gleaming with excitement, giving him an animated, openly engaged presence; no other distinguishing physical features are established.
