Crookshanks is Hermione Granger's enormous, bandy-legged ginger cat, a half-Kneazle whose squashed face and insolent yellow eyes hide a sharp intelligence. Bought by Hermione at Magical Menagerie in Prisoner of Azkaban, he relentlessly hunts Ron's rat Scabbers, sparking a bitter feud between his owner and Ron, until he is vindicated when Scabbers is revealed to be Peter Pettigrew and Crookshanks is shown to have been helping Sirius Black all along. By Goblet of Fire he has settled into a calmer role as an aloof but affectionate presence in Gryffindor Tower, even curling up in Harry's lap during late-night study sessions, though his bristling bottlebrush tail still gives away his moods.

Description

Crookshanks is an enormous ginger cat with thick and fluffy fur that can stand on end when agitated or alarmed. He has a grumpy, ugly, squashed face that looks as if he ran headlong into a brick wall, paired with wide yellow eyes that fix insolently on those around him. His bandy bowlegged legs allow him to crouch low, pounce, and move with surprising lightness while his long bushy bottlebrush tail swishes and bobs behind him. Crookshanks is a large, furry ginger cat with thick, tousled orange coat and short, bandy legs. His broad face looks distinctly squashed, giving him a blunt, unusual profile, and his bottlebrush tail is especially full and expressive. He carries himself with sturdy confidence, often arching his back or curling into a compact, cushion-like heap; his purr lends a softer note to his watchful air.
