Queen Desire, the Inland Queen, entered the tale as a ghost of Buckkeep's past—a deceased consort whose legacy of indulgence and scandal lingered like smoke in the court's corridors. Her long-term intoxicant use had eroded her vitality, leaving a cautionary shadow over the intrigues of power and desire that plagued the royal family. Though mentioned only fleetingly, she embodied the hidden vices that festered within nobility, her marred beauty a silent testament to the poisons of excess that paralleled the kingdom's own decay.
