An old, experienced Grixist adjutant, Deng Bao has long served the victor of the previous year, a role that places him close to authority without making him its center. He shows conspicuous deference to Victory, even as his familiarity with her occasionally breaks through in an affectionate, informal gesture. Shaken and out of sorts amid the turmoil, he later finds himself assigned to the war mages and trying to untangle events in Larracos. In the submerged castle, his inability to breathe underwater makes the alien landscape a danger he cannot simply observe from the sidelines.
Description
Deng Bao is an elderly Grixist male, taller and thinner than Huanxin Jinx, with a spare, narrow build. His defining feature is a set of six eyes that marks his face as unmistakably alien; further details of their arrangement, color, or the rest of his features are not specified. He is an experienced adjutant, most often presented with the composed, attentive bearing of someone ready to serve and a tablet close at hand. His usual manner is deferential and measured, though strain can disturb that careful poise.
