Gonk begins as King Rust’s enormous, absolutely disgusting swamp yak, a creature whose sheer size and impaling horns make him an unforgettable presence. He responds to Simoom with snorts and shares a tender bond with King Rust, keening and bleating in fear when his familiar world is shaken. After a heavy fall, dwarves heal him, and he is later introduced to Mongo with Simoom nearby. Beneath the mud and menace, Gonk remains a loyal, expressive animal whose fear and affection are plain to see.
Description
Gonk is a giant swamp yak, broad and heavy-bodied, with a rough, filthy appearance that seems to belong to the mud itself. His most striking features are his formidable impaling horns and his large, animal presence; the text also presents him as blood-soaked at times. He snorts, stamps, and makes low or terrified bleats, giving his hulking silhouette a surprisingly expressive quality.
