Dross is a major character in Cradle (Book 6).

First appears: Book 6 · Ch. 1
Books: 2

Dross begins as a newly-formed mind-spirit created by Northstrider in the Ghostwater facility, manifesting as a floating, one-eyed purple construct with stubby tentacles. By the time he bonds with Wei Shi Lindon Arelius, Dross evolves from a simple information-processing tool into a fully-fledged companion, offering combat analysis, strategic advice, and a distinct personality. Across the transition from Underlord to Uncrowned, his physical form remains consistent—pebbly purple flesh, a single enormous eye, and expressive tentacle arms—while his role deepens from detached utility to loyal partnership, reflecting Lindon’s own rapid ascent through the sacred arts.

Description

It has two stubby boneless arms that drift and can extend a tentacle, manifesting visibly as a small construct that hovers near its bonded partner. Dross is a small round spirit composed of pebbly purple flesh. A single enormous eye dominates most of his body while a mouth lined with sharp teeth opens and closes as he speaks. Two stubby tentacle arms wave expressively from his sides.
