Buxhöwden is a senior general whose claim to command rests in part on his rank and seniority. During the campaign he comes close to being attacked and captured, but continues with the pursuing army. His brief appearances suggest the peril and uncertainty surrounding even the highest officers, without revealing much of his private life or relationships.
Description
Buxhöwden is described as tall and fair-haired, with no further detail supplied about his face, eyes, age, or precise build. He appears as a high-ranking military commander, dressed in the formal uniform of his position. His bearing is authoritative yet at times markedly still; one striking impression is of him leaning back against a wall with his eyes fixed on a burning candle.
