An elderly Saracen scholar, he is remembered for his exceptional learning and knowledge of Hebrew, Latin, and some thirty languages. His wisdom leads him to propose a test of faith, making him a brief but consequential voice in the account. Beyond that counsel, the text gives little of his personal history.
Description
He is described as elderly and learned, but no further physical features are specified. His height, build, complexion, hair, eyes, facial shape, and attire remain unstated; his most distinctive impression is that of a composed, deeply knowledgeable scholar.
