Coja is one of three barons sent by Argon to the Great Kaan to bring back a bride from Queen Bolgana’s family. He is the only one of the three to survive the return journey; with roads closed by wars among Tartar princes, he turns back after eight months of travel. His survival makes him the sole bearer of the embassy’s account back to the Great Kaan’s court.
Description
Coja is an adult baron, one of three ambassadors accompanied by a gallant company. The narrative does not describe his height, build, complexion, hair, eyes, or facial features. His clothing and any distinctive accessories are likewise unspecified; his formal role suggests a composed, dignified presence.
