Carter, a simple farmer from the outskirts, stumbles into the inn bloodied and lacerated by a scrael's savage attack, alerting Kvothe and the others to the demon's presence. His wounds require 48 stitches, leaving him walking stiffly in recovery. He fades into the background after this harrowing night, a survivor emblematic of the rural folk endangered by supernatural threats.
Description
In his 40s with an average build, his face is pale and smeared with blood, eyes wild like a skittish horse's. His clothes are crisscrossed with long straight cuts, the grey shirt in tatters and stuck to his body, stained dark red; he clutches a bloody saddle blanket. He walks with stiff care, fresh stitches marking his recent injuries.
