The Rocinante begins life as the Tachi, a Martian Congressional Republic Navy corvette-class fast attack frigate that James Holden's surviving crew commandeers during their escape from the doomed MCRN flagship Donnager. Renamed after Don Quixote's horse, it becomes the home and weapon of Holden, Naomi Nagata, Amos Burton, and Alex Kamal as they unravel the protomolecule conspiracy. In Caliban's War, the ship has become a gun-for-hire under an OPA contract. It grows into a symbol of the crew's independence as they hunt for a kidnapped child across a solar system sliding toward war.
