Ceres Station, the hollowed-out dwarf planet at the heart of the Belt, begins the series as a crowded, spinning hub of commerce, crime, and Belter resentment policed by the Earth-contracted Star Helix Security, where detective Joe Miller first takes up the search for Julie Mao. As the protomolecule crisis erupts, Ceres becomes ground zero for the Belt's simmering unrest, and after Star Helix withdraws, the station passes into the hands of the Outer Planets Alliance, turning a corporate-administered port into a symbol of Belter self-rule. By Caliban's War it serves as a strategic waypoint and political touchstone in a solar system lurching toward open war.
