Carlos Merrian is an elderly man, possibly in his eighties or nineties, whom Prax hopes to locate for information connected to the protomolecule research. Prax later recalls Merrian as someone who may know how the protomolecule soldiers broke their programming. The book gives him no fuller personal arc, but his knowledge makes his name a significant lead in Prax’s search.
Description
Merrian is in his eighties or nineties, with a craggy, weather-beaten face that makes his age unmistakable. A sparse fringe of white hair clings to the back of his skull, leaving most of his head bare. His build, eye color, clothing, and other distinguishing features are not described; the few details given make him appear starkly aged and austere.
