Lifespren are tiny glowing green motes of light, sometimes seen with translucent insect-like forms, that gather around growing things on Roshar. In The Way of Kings they are a familiar sign of renewal, swarming plants in the wake of highstorms as the land comes back to life. By Rhythm of War they play a larger part in the story's exploration of spren and Light: they glow brighter when infused with gemstone Light, and they spin around both plants and drummers. That last detail hints at a link between life, rhythm, and the deeper workings of Roshar's spiritual ecology.
