The Unclaimed Hills are a rugged, largely ungoverned stretch of rolling grassland and broken terrain lying east of Alethkar, between the kingdom's heartland and the Shattered Plains. In The Way of Kings they appear as an endless sea of green hills that Kaladin crosses as a branded slave bound for the warcamps, a desolate landscape that mirrors his despair. By Rhythm of War, with Alethkar occupied by the Fused and singers, the same wild hills have become a refuge where fugitives and resisters can hide and survive beyond the reach of the occupying forces.
