The Origin is the mysterious region in the far west of Roshar, beyond the Shattered Plains' furthest reaches in the east's opposite direction, where the devastating highstorms are born before sweeping across the continent. In The Way of Kings it is known only as a distant, near-mythical source of the storms that shape Rosharan life, ecology, and culture. By Rhythm of War, it is more concretely understood as an ocean where the highstorms begin, its nature still shrouded in mystery but increasingly tied to the cosmology of the Stormfather and the storms themselves.
