Kholinar, the capital of Alethkar and seat of House Kholin, begins the series as a distant symbol of royal power, home to King Elhokar's court while the highprinces wage war on the Shattered Plains. As the Everstorm and the Voidbringers return, the city falls under siege and is ultimately taken by the Fused and the Unmade Ashertmarn, with Elhokar slain during the attempted rescue. By Rhythm of War, Kholinar stands as an occupied city, the heart of Odium's hold on Alethkar, a painful reminder to the Kholins of their lost homeland and a stage for the resistance and Kaladin's family history.
