Hearthstone is a small, remote town in the Alethi princedom of Sadeas, best known as the childhood home of Kaladin Stormblessed, where his father Lirin served as the town surgeon under the rule of Brightlord Roshone. In The Way of Kings, it appears through Kaladin's flashbacks as the place that shaped his ideals, his skill as a healer, and his deep distrust of lighteyed nobility after Roshone's petty vendetta sent Kaladin and his brother Tien to war. By Rhythm of War, Hearthstone has been swept up in the Everstorm's aftermath and the Fused occupation; Kaladin returns to evacuate his family and the townsfolk, and the town comes to stand for how much the war has changed home since he left.
