The Heralds begin the series as distant figures of Vorin faith, ten idealized humans immortalized in religious statuary, five men and five women, whose physical features go undescribed. By Rhythm of War they have become living, troubled survivors. They are revealed as ancient warriors who trained humanity to fight during the Returns and whose Oathpact once confined the Fused on Braize. Shalash (Ash) and Talenelat (Taln) are brought to a meeting in the present day, embodying the lingering power and weight of an ancient purpose that time has not erased.
Description
A group of ten human figures, represented in religious statues; five are male and five female. Individual physical features are not described. Shalash, known as Ash, is a beautiful young Makabaki woman with long black hair and Shin features. Beside her, Talenelat, or Taln, is a tall, strongly built Makabaki man with a stoic bearing and distant expression. No specific clothing, eye color, or further facial details are provided. Together they have a solemn, ancient presence, with Taln seeming remote and in need of guidance.

The FusedEnemies
The Heralds' Oathpact served as the binding that could confine the Fused on Braize between Returns. This casts the Heralds as the ancient counterweight to the Fused invasions.
