The Protean Knight Armor first appears in Golden Son as a mysterious, adaptive combat suit that marks Darrow's ascension into elite Society warfare. By Morning Star, the armor has evolved from a mere technological marvel into a symbol of rebellion, its chameleon-like properties allowing Darrow to infiltrate enemy strongholds and turn the tide of war. Across both books, the armor embodies the shifting nature of Darrow's identity—its ability to mimic any form mirroring his own transformation from Red to Gold to revolutionary leader.
