Kryll first appears in Morning Star as a grotesque, organic breathing mask crafted by Carvers, resembling shed locust skin with leg-like straps that secure it over the nose and mouth. By Iron Gold, the technology has evolved into a sophisticated, membrane-based breathing apparatus designed for Io’s toxic atmosphere, integrated with protective scorosuits. This progression reflects both technological refinement and the expanding scope of environments the characters must survive.
