Howler Armor first appears in Golden Son as the distinctive black beetle-shell battle plate worn by Darrow's elite strike team, marked by golden lion emblems that signify their allegiance and ferocity. By Morning Star the armor has become an iconic symbol of the rising rebellion, its absence from explicit description underscoring how the Howlers themselves have transcended the need for visual identifiers—their reputation alone is enough to inspire dread and loyalty. Across the two books the armor evolves from a practical uniform of an insurgent squad into the heraldic mantle of a legend that will outlast the war itself.
