Sophocles, the outsized red-gold fox of House Telemanus, begins as Kavax au Telemanus’s beloved companion in Golden Son, where his playful curiosity and appetite for jelly beans mark him as a memorable presence among the Rising’s inner circle. By Morning Star he has become Darrow’s unofficial mascot, offering fleeting levity and comfort during the war’s darkest hours and even sprinting freely along Earth’s liberated shores. In Iron Gold the fox—now an ancient twenty-first clone—transfers his affections to Lyria of Lagalos, whose care of the animal becomes both a literal duty and a symbolic endorsement of her place within House Telemanus.
Description
This substantial fox weighs nearly thirty-five kilograms and possesses a thick, hardy build far more wolflike than a common fox, allowing it to move with powerful purpose through its environment. Its body is covered in dark russet fur with a lustrous red-gold tone, broken by a clean white chest and four sleek black legs that carry it forward during investigations. Sharp ears crown its head above a pointed snout that it uses to eagerly dig into pockets or nuzzle for jelly beans, its fierce peering eyes and content panting completing the image of an intelligent, alert companion animal in a futuristic setting. Sophocles is a heavy, nearly thirty-five-kilogram fox with dark russet fur that catches red-gold in the light. A clean white chest and black legs sharply mark his coloring, while his pointed ears and keen, foxlike muzzle give him an alert silhouette. His expression can look wary and tremulous or intensely inquisitive, and his sturdy, substantial build makes him seem unusually imposing for a fox. He wears no clothing or accessories. This small fox-like creature boasts fluffy reddish fur and large, expressive eyes full of curiosity. His lop ears flop charmingly when relaxed, framing a compact, playful build perfect for digging into armor joints or leaping onto shoulders. He moves with eager, bounding energy, chin often resting affectionately on nearby feet. No clothing adorns his form, but his mischievous presence lights up any scene. Sophocles is a large fox, about the size of a large child, with a glossy red coat and a full, bushy tail. His pointed ears and narrow snout—streaked with white—give his face a keen, alert look, while his cold nose and bright watchfulness make him seem vividly present. He carries himself with playful confidence, equally at home curled in Kavax’s lap or poised to spring into mischief.
