Fluffy first appears in the seventh book of the Old Man's War series, The Shattering Peace, as a seasoned Consu antagonist whose weathered presence and cobalt blue disk signify both authority and the burden of tradition. Its role is defined by its impending duel with Gretchen Trujillo, a confrontation rooted in Kitty's philosophical disputes, marking Fluffy as a vessel for the Consu’s ritualistic and combative culture. Though introduced late in the series, Fluffy embodies the enduring, cyclical nature of Consu conflicts and the passing of their customs to the next generation, as seen in its accompaniment by the child Bacon.
Description
This older Consu displays a weathered carapace marked by age and distress, its segmented armor plating showing the accumulated wear of years. Multiple slashing arms extend from its body with deliberate menace, while it carries a distinctive cobalt blue disk. The alien's non-humanoid physiology creates an unsettling presence, its aged appearance contrasting with the pleasant quality of its voice.
